"Αύτη η ημέρα, ην εποίησεν ο Κύριος." ("This is the day the Lord has made.") In this church, generations upon generations have knelt before God. Agia Paraskevi intercedes for us. We continue to come.
One of our own became a light for the whole world
He was born on this island. He became a bishop, a miracle-worker, a pillar of Orthodoxy. "Της Συνόδου της πρώτης ανεδείχθης υπέραχος." ("Of the First Council you were revealed as champion.") Every 12th of December we honour him. Every day he intercedes for us.
"Εγώ ειμί ο ποιμήν ο καλός" ("I am the Good Shepherd")
This church is built upon Christ's promise never to leave anyone alone. It is open. It always has been.
His holy relics came to us. We received them.
"Θαλάσσης τρικυμίας χαλινών, λάρνακά σου Επισκοπή κατεστήριξας." ("Taming the storms of the sea, your reliquary was set in the town of Episkopi.") The martyr-bishop Ermogenis has rested here since the 4th century. We come to him. We pray. And the Saint listens.
About Us
The churches of Episkopi are your home
Here we received our Baptism and Chrismation. Here we received Holy Communion for the first time. Here we were married, and here we said farewell to our loved ones in the hope of the Resurrection. "Ως φοβερός ο τόπος ούτος. Ουκ εστιν τούτο αλλ' η οικία του Θεού." ("How awesome is this place. This is none other than the house of God.") The four churches of Episkopi are that house. And it belongs to all of us.
Living Heritage
Discover our churches, the Divine Liturgy schedule and the feast days of our Saints. The door is open every day.
Through community, and care for others, the churches of Episkopi help keep our faith strong and our heritage alive in everyday life.
Tradition
"Στήκετε και κρατείτε τας παραδόσεις" ("Stand firm and hold to the traditions"), writes the Apostle Paul. Faith is passed on when a child watches their parent make the sign of the cross, kneel, light a candle. This tradition lives in our churches and we hand it on to the next generation.
Community Life
The Divine Liturgy, the feast of the Saint, the conversation in the churchyard after the service. "Όπου γαρ εισιν δύο ή τρεις συνηγμένοι εις το εμόν όνομα, εκεί ειμί εν μέσω αυτών." ("For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.") When we gather, Christ is in our midst.
Philanthropy
"Αγαπάτε αλλήλους, καθώς ηγάπησα υμάς." ("Love one another, as I have loved you.") This is not a simple commandment. It is the way we live as a community. We look after the weak, the sick, the lonely person next door.
Prayer and Worship
"Εγγίσατε τω Θεώ και εγγιεί υμίν." ("Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.") Every Sunday, every Divine Liturgy, every feast day is that moment. We stop. We become one. With God, with our Saints, with the brothers and sisters beside us.
"Τί γαρ ωφεληθήσεται άνθρωπος εάν τον κόσμον όλον κερδήση, την δε ψυχήν αυτού ζημιωθή;" ("For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?")
